A Brief Note about Caymus Vineyards, Chuck Wagner, and The
Wagner Family of Wines -Chuck Wagner comes from a long line of
Napa Valley farmers and winemakers. He knows the land well from
his upbringing working the family walnut and prune farm in
Rutherford - the heart of Napa Valley, California. In 1972,
Chuck joined his parents, Charlie and Lorna, when they decided
to bring their home winemaking talents into the world of
professional vintners. The Wagners established Caymus Vineyards
on their property and began turning their good idea into some
great wines loved and lauded throughout the world.
Caymus Vineyards holds the unique honor of having Wine Spectator
magazine name Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon “Wine
of the Year” – not once, but twice. Caymus Cabernets have
consistently achieved some of the highest and most consistent
wine scores of all Napa Valley Cabernets. Chuck and his late
father, Charlie, shaped the reputation of Caymus by always
keeping the focus on quality - in both the vineyard and winery.
Caymus is still a hands-on, family-owned and -operated winery.
Chuck is joined by his sons, Charlie Wagner II - winemaker of
Mer Soleil - and Joseph Wagner – viticulturalist and winemaker
for Belle Glos. This generation is expanding the legacy of
artisan winemaking with the help of a loyal and passionate
staff. Mer Soleil and Belle Glos branch out from Napa roots and
reap the bounty of spectacular vineyards along the equally
spectacular California coast. The ever-popular Conundrum brand
rounds out the portfolio that is The Wagner Family of Wines.
